Residents of Texas have the freedom to access their public documents. One of the documents they can easily obtain is the records of marriage in Texas.

Residents of Texas use marriage records for a number of reasons. One of the most common reasons is for genealogy research. The marriage of a couple has to be updated on the family tree. The document is also one of the important documents that are being required when dealing with transactions in the government. Transactions that involve the finances of a couple would usually require a copy of a marriage certificate. The marriage of a couple has to be updated in the records of the government. There are also individuals who use the marriage certificates as reference when they check on the marital status of their partners. They do this to make sure that they are dating an individual who is unattached to avoid problems by the time they plan to marry.

A marriage certificate would basically contain information about the marriage of a couple. Important dates and places as to where and when the marriage took place are indicated on the file. One would also know the maiden name of the bride together with the name of the groom. Some of their personal information is indicated on the file as well such as their birth details and profession. The state of Texas has managed to keep records of marriage since January 1966. One can only get a copy of their personal marriage license. The immediate family of the couple also has access to the marriage certificates of their relative. To proceed with the search, one has to fill out a request form indicating all of the information necessary to conduct the search. This includes the basic information about the marriage and the contact details of the one who filed the request.

The Department of health under the Vital Records Section is where all of the public documents of Texas are archived. This includes the marriage records of its people. However, the state office cannot provide a certified copy of a marriage certificate since it has to be done at the county where the marriage took place. The state office can only help identify where the document can be obtained and this verification would cost $20. The actual search at the county office would have another separated fee and the fee is not the same for each county.
